LA Letter

Dear Cola,

Stanley arrived in California safely. We saw the airmail that arrived, he enjoyed the CA air. Stanley came at the right time, it was near the time of the LA Marathon. He came a month before, I took him on the long runs when I went to Santa Monica. While I was running he was enjoying the beach life. All he was doing was fishing and looking at the view. I took him to the arcades, the rides, and the little games they have at the pier.

Time flew by when I was with Stanley. One month passed and it was time for the marathon. We had to wake up at 4:00 in the morning!!! All he was doing was complaining about how he had to wake up early… Anyway we were really worried about the rain, the past few days it was pouring, so Stanley had to stay home. We saw a whole bunch of movies together. On the day of the marathon we were scared of the rain, it was really cold. As we loaded up on the bus, we went straight to the dodger stadium.

We got off the bus and met up at the starting line. There were 23,000 people. Stanley was intimidated. As we were waiting for the rain to arrive, we saw the sun hitting the peak of the mountain. All 23,000 people were screaming, Stanley thought the stadium shook. He saw the people faces they were all happy. The run started.

We started running by the Dodger stadium and ran towards the Chinatown gate. Soon we reached Little Tokyo, You can see the sparkle in Stanley’s eyes. He was amazed at all the historical sites. We also ran by Hollywood walk of fame. He saw the Walt Disney Concert hall, he was pretty thrilled! He was wondering why there were so many people cheering random strangers to run. I was wondering about it too, seems that they were just nice people who wanted to support family and friends.

Stanley and I, we had so much fun running together, sometimes we would walk and just enjoy the weather and sites while running/walking. We finished the run together! There was so many people cheering us on at the finish line. We felt a chill down our spines when we heard a roar of cheer. Stanley thought the strong winds were created by the cheering but it was just the beach winds, he was flying away. So I grabbed Stanley and sprinted the last 400 meters! We passed by so many people that were walking, we saw the finish line and made our victory pose. We were so tired! But the free food at the end was amazing, I took a whole box of granola bars, Stanley got some bananas. We just wanted to sit. As soon as we got home Stanley knocked out. Too bad Stanley had to leave tomorrow, I hope he had a fun time.

Sincerely,
Andrew Chong

P.S. Next year we could just go out and visit other famous places rather than running past them.

Condition of Los Angeles High School Teachers

Public high schools are being more and more ridiculed. The government derides the funds of public high schools. The budget cuts are giving a big blow to the teachers, the teachers cannot lower their guard. LAUSD has been advised by Governor Brown and the Los Angeles County Office of Education that AB 114 does not apply to federal, local and other funds. The 1,918 teachers and counselors were lost on June 30 resulted from the loss of Federal funding, declining enrollment and other factors. More than 1,900 teachers and counselors lost their jobs on June 30, 2011 as a result of California's continued under funding of classrooms, the loss of federal stimulus funds, declining enrollment and other factors. In addition, classified positions are due to be cut but their deadline is more flexible, requiring only a 45-day notice.
United Teachers and the Associated Administrators of Los Angeles, more than 3,500 teachers, counselors, nurses, librarians, and administrator positions were saved in 2011-12. For most employees, the amount paid per hour will remain the same but the number of hours may be reduced based on how an employee takes. In addition, office employees moved from a 12-month schedule to a 10-month schedule to mirror the traditional school year.
Seems now, only experienced teachers are getting "lucky". For the teachers who are barley making it through, they suffer or are scared of making mistakes.
Billions of income has been slashed towards the school income. Due to the teacher layoffs, class sizes has skyrocketed. Because of that, the student to teacher ratio has risen. Now the equivalant of one student has now become 5. SO now the attention of one student is slowly deteriating meaning that the student loses the privalege of learning more.
I myself am a victim of budget cuts. Class sizes has rises since I entered High school, from fifteen students, to fourty. My senior year has become pact with students in every class. Seems as though that the school are just throwing the students into the classes. As if we were in jail, and we were are being punished with the oversized classes.
Im not sure if the budget cuts are effecting our food, but seems as if the quality of the food has gone down. I mean we really cant complain about free food but even if it free we really can't complain.

Macbeth Essay

The trio witches determine the fate of the kings. William Shakespeare clearly uses fiction into his plays. Shakespeare not only uses fiction but uses tragedy as his main story point, now known as Shakespearean tragedy. In Macbeths case he finds out that he will hold the title “thane of cawdor”, and not become the kings of kings like Duncan and his successors.

The story involves a conflict between the hero and a person of force, called the antagonist (Banquo), which the hero must battle. Inevitably the conflict contributes the hero’s downfall.

Macbeth faces his fate, ambition, loss, defeat, loyalty, impulse, and desire. The trio witches make Macbeth face all of the impulses and desire he has towards killing king Duncan. This follows up with Macbeth seeing a dagger floating above him. He questions whether it is real or a fragment of his imagination. The dagger leads Macbeth towards Duncan’s room, and as a result Macbeth pulls his dagger out and kills Duncan. (Act 2, scene 1). Macbeth uses symbolism towards the dagger showing his impulses towards Duncan. Without the role of the witches and their prophesy, Macbeth would not have had the urge to kill the present king.

Because of Macbeth’s will to become the king to the extent of hiring assassins to kill Banqou’s children and frame his servants clearly shows his ambition as a result Macbeth has become power hungry and is trying to gain more power. He believes that no one can stop him.

Later resulting in Macbeth and Banquo trying to see who deserves to be king. Banquo the antagonist fights against Macbeth to claim their resolve on who can be the better king.

Running Shoes

Each step I take, I feel pressure on my soul. All I can do is support the my person who bought me. Beneath me I feel the earth, I am used up as a cushion between my owner and the pavement beneath me. All I can do is support my owner. Up and down, in a circular motion. All I can do...

I absorb the shock from the pavement which runs throughout my whole body. I am being bombarded by rain. It is below freezing temperature. It feels like I am being attacked by coins. My body becomes stiff.

There are other days where I endure the summer heat of Los Angeles. The pavement is scorching hot. It feels like I am being melted by the heat and friction between me and my owner.

All the suffering I have to endure, and what do I get as a result of my hard work? I get washed.

Knowing I have done my job, getting used up to all of my possible potential.
Getting beat up, thrown, washed, getting bitten by dogs, and running through all the seasons of the year. I know I have done my job. Maybe if I am good enough and be taken care of well, I may be able to last a little longer.

1500 word essay

America, one of the fattest counties in the world. America wasn’t chosen randomly to be nominated ao be the fattest country. It was all the fast food. Fast food in America is a decent place to set up fast food shops. “America, the land of the free!” America is a magnet for people who want new lives. To start anew, people have to start from the bottom. When they start of at the bottom, they wont have a lot of money. As soon as the people who live in America get their livings, they want to save money for the younger generation. So in order to save money, they eat fast food which is cheap and filling. Fast food is now a part of the 21st century. People need to accept that fast food is there and probably will not just go away. But not everybody has adopted fast food is there, and will probably just not go away just because people want it to. Fast food is rapidly growing, and may even become mainstream.
America will continue to be one of the most fattest countries in the world, unless people take a stand. Parents should be a role model for the younger generations, buy they’re not! I believe that the parents are at fault, but not only the parents but the industries as well. The marketing industries try to expose their products to children. The industries proliferation of making chains of stores distributing the products make it hard to stay away. States within the United States are getting more and more obese. The states have taken notice of childhood obesity. It was a serious matter ans still is. The industry is only marketing the products, while the parents are the ones who allow the children to eat such high-calorie foods.
Set of short articles in “Fast Food: Who’s to blame?”
Shannon Brownlee, in “Its Portion Distortion that makes America Fat” states that the fast food companies are the ones that the fast food companies are the ones that are responsible for the Americans with the roly-poly shapes they have today. “But make no mistake: When they do well economically, we gain weight.” Meaning that when the companies to good, its thanks to us. Americans wake up to the fact that obesity is killing nearly as many citizens as cigarettes are, jumbo burgers and super-size fries will seem like less of a bargain. If you put more food in front of people, they eat more, as studies have shown in the last decade.
“If you Pitch it, They will Eat it” by David Barboza stated that “ a growing number of nutritionalists call it a blitzkrieg that preserves children’s eating habits and sets then on a path of obesity.” Just as the title implies. If they pitch it, they will eat it. “While the companies view these as promotional pitches, lawyers are threatening a wave of obesity-related class action lawsuits.” Companies see their marketing as “harmless” but in fact the opposite, the results are within the children who are exposed to the “harmless marketing”. “Increase in food marketing to children has closely tacked their increase in weight.” Targeting children is a smart thing, but can result to childhood obesity.
David Zincsenkojin “Don’t Blame the Eater” talks about how its not the fast food whos at fault, but the eaters. “Kids taking on McDonalds this week, suing the company for making them fat.” $100 billion a year for the centers for disease control is stupid. Children who eat fast food, by the age of 15 one is 212 pounds. Before it was only 5 percent of childhood cases were obesity related, not its over 16 percent. “Fast food targets children”, that meaning children influence the adults, because the can only cry and cry about what they want. To shut them up the parents have to give in.
Daniel Weintraub, in “The Battle against Fast Food Begins in the Home.” Stated “it’s the parents-not the government, not the fast food companies, not the video-game manufactures- who are responsible for teaching kids healthy eating and excuse habits.” People try to blame the government, fast- food companies, video- games, but I believe that all of the responsibilities fall on the parents. While people still try to find someone to blame, they should be conserned about their fitness.

The fast- food chain is an epidemic. Since the 1980’s the rate of obesity has doubled. All starting in their childhood years. Student or children are being exposed to more and more fast foods. Children rely on their parents are being exposed to more and more fast food

Reading Autobiography

In the year 2000 is when I first remember being introduced to a book. In sure that i was introduced earlier when i was younger. In the year 2000 i was in kindergarten, thats when i remember being read my first book, i have no recollecting memories of what story was about. As i went on to elementary, i remember more stories i was exposed to. I was exposed to mostly disney stories, that were in korean, my parent would read them aloud to me.

It was in elementary where i started to read by myself, i remember clearly that i read aloud to the class. of course any other child would be nervous presenting in front of a class, i was one of those nervous children. My English wasn't that proficient so my mom would have made me read newspapers, the little articles they would have. That's when my English got better and my Korean got worse. As i kept on reading i used more and more English, but as i used more English, i used less Korean.

As time went on, i moved on to middle school. Middle school was not the best time for me in reading. I rarely have memories of me reading in middle school. What i read were the mainstream books like harry potter and the unfortunate events. Later on i found out that those books were turned into movies. I was interested in books that were changed into movies, because i realized that not all the specific details were either in the book or movie. Most of the time the movie is made from the book.

Since then i became interested in movies that were originally books. So i read more and more books as i realized they were movies. As i went on in life i became less and less interested in reading books by myself. I wouldn't touch a book unless i had to for a school assignment. I wouldn't read books, but i would read manga, Japanese comics. Through manga i picked up some words, like nostalgia.

In my Junior and Senior year, i realized i had to be more exposed to the worlds newspapers and TIME magazines. I had to be more exposed to the world because, soon i will be in the world all by myself. It would also change the way i talk and be more exposed to words I'm unfamiliar with. So i try to read a time magazine almost everyday, if not every other day.

My uncle who has tutored me in my SAT studies, has introduced me to many things. He has a Ph D. and masters and some other stuff, i dont really care, but he told me about the real world. Now i try to be more involved with more unfamiliar words. I try to visit Barnes and Nobles every other month.

When reading its hard for me to concentrate with a lot of distractions around me. Usually when i read, my mind gets distracted, but once i really get into a book, nothing would keep me away from a good book.

Internet Essay

People these days think that fame is an important thing. It can control how people can act. They get the fame from creating a virtual self. A virtual self can create a new life or your personality. People in real life may be unsatisfied with how their lives are and want to escape reality, through facebook or avatars. 91% of facebook users go back on facebook because its so addictive. “traffic on facebook has grown 272% in the past year…”

People want to escape reality. They do this because they are not satisfactory with how they want to live. “An avatar becomes ones digital self…”. Avatars can create a “new” you. “ A 27-year-old wife and mother Becky Glasure, who complains of never having being taken seriously.” She didn’t want to be ignored so she created an avatar and escaped reality to the virtual world.

Not all humans are created equal. They wish to all have perfect bodies like the ones that are being advertised. This can make people sad and self-concious of who they are, creating depression. To escape that depression they want to escape to the virtual world. “ there is ample repititon, even among them. For one, quite a number of avatars are just younger, thinner and prettier versions of their creators.”

Social networking sites these days are so popular that millions of people around the world use it. It’s also a recent trend and the government doesn’t have much control over it. It’s a good thing because you can see a long lost friend over facebook. “for students of the generation who have grown up “online” it is easy to take for granted the virtual society we live in.” What the quote is saying is that the kids that were born onto the computer, they don’t understand the risks we live in.

This only shows that danger can lurk anywhere in the internet. There are predators everywhere. Predators aren’t only random strangers, they could be someone you know. “20 students were suspended last month from TeWinkle Middle School for two days for participating in a Myspace group where one student allegedly threatened to kill another…” This quote shows how much thust peopleput onto the mainstream social networking sites, they escape reality to facebook or myspace and share their stories. Not only that , but people these days post many things that might regret. Most not very effective to their goal, but still enough to haunt them.

Winter Break

During my winter break, I was supposed to study my SAT book. I made plans and everything on what to study and when. So in the end, i ended up not studying the whole winter break, so i wasted precious studying time. I also planned on doing all my homework for the first week, but in the end i procrastinated till yesterday, Sunday. So i didnt sleep at all. Other than homework and studying i ended up having a very relaxing break. Me and my family celabrated me and my brothers birthday's. So i ended up eating allot over the break as well. I would have at least gained five pounds, but thankfully as an athlete i have to keep myself in shape. I train for the up coming L.A. marathon, i also had track and field practice to attend also. So i guess during the break i was fit.

My brother moved out to live with my mom. So i had two rooms all to myself, the rooms are both connected to each other so i can just walk through. I moved everything into the bigger room. The big room included three desks, one for studying, one for playing, and one for the computer. The room also has a nice leather sofa and a huge bunk bed. In the smaller room I transformed it into a workout room. Its the smaller room but i guess its still a big room. I spent over 5five hundread dollars on the new work out room.

The Crucible

In the late 1940-50’s the United States found themselves living in the midst of mass hysteria. Hundreds of lives were devastated during the time of Senator Joseph McCarthy. In McCarthy’s time he created the time of devastation. He created mass hysteria causing many Americans to lose their families, reputations shattered for many decades, and also ruining their careers. Mass Hysteria has been used in political rhetorical and popular literature as vivid cautionary tales about isolationism, religious extreamism, false accusation, lapses in due process of law, and government intrusion or individual liberties. This can only show the horrendous power of mass hysteria.

In the story The Crucible there was Mass Hysteria in Serbia, where they believed in witchcraft and eventually led to Mass Hysteria. “… the Salem folk believed that the virgin forests was the devils last preserve, his home base and the citadel of his final stand.” This quote shows that they believed strongly in their religion. Only to show that whatever they believe in strongly they will eventually believe it. A Puritan belief of the 17th century is that the devil and other demons live in the forest, and that witchcraft is performed there as well, Its because they believed so strongly in the devils forest, led them to lead to Mass Hysteria. The false accusations would only lead to, and caused panic and eventually unneeded deaths.

The Crucible was based on the witch trials in Salem. The trials were against the girls who did the witchcraft in the forest. Which led to Mass Hysteria. The way the girls would follow each other, like they pretend to be bewitched, which spreads. The girls acted as if they were possessed by the devil. They used that as an advantage to show that they were the only ones to see the devils. By doing that it was either to join them or to be seen as a witch. It also plays a role of sexism showing that only the females would be possessed and not any man. A quote from the book shows “ …the witch hunt was not however, a mere representation . It was also, and as importantly, a long overdue opportunity for everyone so inclined to express publicity his guilt and sins, under the cover of accusations against the victims.” So what the text is saying, is that the people had to uncover their own misdoings to show that they or whoever they wanted to protect were not a witch. This wasn’t mass hysteria itself, but it was cause and effect, which led to that.

A real life example of Mass Hysteria in action would be when Joseph McCarthy had created the “red scare”. McCarthy did something like the witch trials. The term McCarthyism was created from Joseph McCarthy. He would use his power and knowledge to scare and make accusations to people without the proper evidence. He had the people scared to do what he wanted them to do. Instead of witchcraft he would use “communism”.
The “red scare” strongly supported anti- communism. The first red scare was between 1919- 1920 which lasted about a year. It was to the workers (socialists). It was on revolution and political radicalism, this was a case of Mass Hysteria that would change Church, home, marriage, civility, and the American way of life. The second red scare was between 1947- 1957 which lasted about 10 years. The second scare was on the national and foreign communists influencing society or infiltrating the federal government or both.

The developments in The Crucible and the real life actions of Joseph McCarthy both ended up creating Mass Hysteria and ended up killing people without reason. Both the, Salem witch trials and the red scare both were the starting point of McCarthyism. The women from the crucible would be accused without reason and be sent to execution, the same thing with the red scare, you would be executed if you were under the suspicion of being a communist. In the end Mass Hysteria can lead to many thing, and that would be what the countless people had felt, the cause and effects of Mass Hysteria and McCarthyism itself.

LGBTB Stand up, Speak out

Have you ever been bullied?
Most people bully others for no reason, but to deride people, I feel that’s its worse. People who a re ridiculed know that being made fun of hurts. Some are ridiculed for personal reasons and some are ridiculed for stupid reasons like being gay or lesbian. It’s an enigma to why people get abused both physically and mentally by people who are haters just because they might be a little different from them. Is it because they are scared, scared of living in a world which isn’t the same as the one they used to live in? Scared of change? The term “being out of the closet” means to be openly gay and proud of it. Gays hide inside the closet and do not express themselves because they don’t want to deal with discrimination. Although I haven’t experience being gay or “inside the closet”, I know that holding in anger isn’t good for your health. So I wonder, is it the same way as not being able to express yourself as a gay, holding anger inside of yourself? I think so.

Being an Asian in a school populated with Hispanics and African Americans, you get discriminated against. I don’t have anything wrong with Hispanics; most of my friends are Hispanic and so is my girlfriend. Our school West Adams Preparatory High School on Washington and Vermont, has an Asian Population less than 2%. Therefore I know a little something about being discriminated against. I don’t mind the fact that people judge me, I think it’s because people feel that there is disparity between races therefore most people are shallow. Although I don’t think people should be judged by who they are. I guess it’s because I have experienced being discriminated against, that I don’t mind the fact that people are gay. They are just people. Humans create disparity in order to be the best and win the game of “survival of the fittest”. They feel that disparity still exists. People have become so deprived to the point where people put up banners to deride the gays.

I can understand why people wouldn’t “come out of the closet”. People are judgmental and mock others. It’s immutable to get rid of depravity in this world. This year, on October 17, 2010 in my junior year, was my first time in the aids walk. As I was walking, I saw all these people with banners about how got hates gays and that all gays would go to hell. It seemed like their piety was good, but all they were causing was adversity. When they were all together holding up the banners, they had the ascendancy over the walking crowd. In my head I wondered, “whoa, are they actually don’t that?” They thought that they were doing right, but in my eyes all they were doing was deprecating the gays. I was one of the many who were “booing” at them. They looked unphased by it. They didn’t care about being booed at. Like they were unwilling about putting up the banners, but the fact that they did it; it was profane. Any human would feel bad.

I don’t know many gays in our school, but I do know some people who are. One kid on our school gets treated in a profane way. I wonder if they do it arbitrarily or just for the fun of it. Its just the depravity of people, it would make anyone despondent. I would want to rectify with my voice, but in the end I would just retract myself. All I could do was support him in a public way. To the people who deride him, he’s seen different than a normal guy. Then he got a girlfriend because he was bisexual. The bullies used to disparage him, until he got a girlfriend. I don’t know if he got a girlfriend because he was treated so badly or if he just loved the girl, but the fact that he got treated differently shows the hierarchy in the prejudice world.

As any normal teenager, I watch t.v. and on the show “Glee” there is a character who is gay. The show isn’t about him, but still shows the life of an average open gay kid in school. I believe that the show reveals ethical dilemmas because it puts him in different situations and shows the way he gets treated. He is the only openly gay kid in school and is denounced everyday at school by the more popular kids in school like football player. People watch as he got bullied and treat him in a profane way. They would watch in disinclination and wouldn’t even bother to rectify the situation. I just feel sad but so does every other person with morals, but the ones who stand up can change or even save a life.

Maybe to the people to ridicule others, discrimination doesn’t seem like a big deal its harmless in their eyes. I know just by seeing how gays are being treated that all they want is to extricate themselves from all the “harmlessness” they receive from people. All anybody wants is sanction. To be approved of and not be seen any differently is what anyone would want to feel, but the fact that people are superficial causes us to do things to receive approval by society. In the end does society want us to be who we are or what they want us to be? Do they want us to “hide inside the closet”?

Civil Disobedience

In the time of the American Revolution, revolutionists like Patrick Henry, Thomas Jefferson and Abigail Adams, has passionately voiced the ideas of equality and natural rights. Inspired by these ideas, Martin Luther king Jr. and Malcom X led a crusade for racial justice. Through their vision of justice they found the act of non-violence; civil disobedience. Malcom X and Martin Luther King Jr. were born around the same time. At that time, it was when the laws and the government were unjust. Laws were made for citizens to have equal rights. When those laws are not equal for all citizens there is going to be civil disobedience. The laws weren’t made equal for African Americans, and both Martin Luther King Jr. and Malcom X wanted to fight nonviolently for those rights.

Martin Luther King Jr. and Malcom X were both the strongest speakers of their time. They both led a non violent campaign for civil disobedience. They did this by the act of parallelism. They both use the grammatical forms to express equivalent thoughts. For example Martin Luther King Jr. wrote a letter in Birmingham jail for his fellow clergymen. He was sent to jail because he was in a protest for civil rights. Through his letter he didn’t want his fellow people to be angry. Martin Luther King quoted “love your enemies bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you.” He didn’t want his fellow people to fight, he wanted them to love their enemies. When Martin Luther King wrote the letter he didn’t want the act of violence just the act of civil disobedience itself. Malcom X was another powerful speaker during his time. When Malcom X was being interviewed; crane asked if he was preaching an anarchy, Malcom responded “Oh no. I respect the government and respect the law. But does the government and law respect us?” I believe that this was a strong response. Through that response it showed that all he wanted to do was claim their respected and deserved rights. Martin Luther King and Malcom X fought for their natural rights through civil disobedience.

Everyone knows no two great men are alike. Martin Luther King was born in the middle class, while Malcom was born a no body. They both fight for the same reason, but they have different ways of doing it. Martin Luther King is fighting by civil disobedience. Kind defends his actions by drawing upon the ideas of philosophers, religious scholars, biblical figures, and political thinkers. “ I hope this letter finds you strong in faith.” Martin Luther King is a religious person, that’s what made him fight through civil disobedience without violence. He focused on the equality and goodness of man, as well as his ability to do good in the name of goodness itself. While Malcom X was a violent action kind of man, but he acted without violence and fought through civil disobedience. He was raised to hate the people who killed his father in front of his eyes, burning a cross in front of his yard. While Martin Luther King fought with goodness at his side, Malcom X fought with hate, he wanted to get back at the world that pretty much treated him unfairly.

Still in both ways, both Martin Luther King Jr. and Malcom X did fight for Civil rights. They were inspired by the passionately voiced ideas of equality and natural rights. With their own vision of justice they acted upon civil disobedience. Though they were raised in different environments, they spread their message through powerful hard-hitting speeches. Nevertheless their intentions were delivered in different styles.

What is an American?

An American person, in my view is basically who I am. I am an American, I have a religious freedom, and I am free to do what I want in life. I think that the word American doesn’t just mean living in America; it has another meaning to it. Stream of consciousness helped in wording my thoughts in what an American is. An American can have many meanings. Therefore many people have different ideas on what they believe it is.

The question “What is an American?” is like a word you know but you don’t know the exact definition of it because you never think about it. I believe that living in America gives you your rights and freedom, what you do with your rights and freedom is what makes you an American, what I do in life makes me an American. Everyday choices like where I live and breath makes me an American. For example one has to make a decision to eat fast food or to eat really healthy food. To be an American is enjoying your rights as a human being, living in democracy.

Being an American does not just mean being a certain ethnicity, gender, age, or what kind of car you drive. I wake up everyday to go to school just like thousands of other students. It does not even have to be in high school; it could be elementary school, middle school, or even college. I think that going to school by choice and determining what kind of grades I get makes me an American.

In most television shows and movies it shows the American as secret spies who live their lives in adrenaline and guns. I think that it’s only half correct. Because being an American gives you that right to do what you want. For example, one could become a top secret spy, cop, or a marine officer. Being an American gives you those natural rights which are life, liberty, and property, or the goals of our government.

Everyone has their own personal definition of an American and some thoughts might be the same, and some might be different than others. My thoughts are basically what I live and deal with in everyday life. I learned that I get to make my own choices in America and I can live my life anyway I want to. In the dictionary it states that an American is a citizen of America. I don’t fully agree with that. Well it does make you an American citizen, but doesn’t give you any meaning into it. An American is not a word that labels you as something, but rather something you are or an experience you gain.

Academic Autobiography

Nobody truly supported my academic life past elementary school. My parents would brag about me to their friends about me being in a magnet school when I was in elementary. My elementary school “Wonderland” was in the mountains. When ever I took the school bus up there it would always give me headaches, so I could never fully concentrate on my school work there. So it was then was fourth grade when the teachers told me that I would have to retake fourth grade or go to another school, it was then where my dad decided that I should just go to a public school, which I exelled at. My dad was kind of disappointed in me, so it was then when I promised myself that I would get all A’s in my classes.

I exelled through the rest of my elementary school, but it was my middle school “Pio Pico” that got me down. I was good at 6th grade with all the A’s, but my lowest grade in middle school was a “C” so I wasn’t to disappointed.

I loved how middle school took forever, I remember when me and my friends couldn’t believe that we were actually 8th graders. It felt that middle school took forever compared to high school. Even though I’m not finished with high school, time seems to be flying faster every year. It was also high school where I found a love for science. So then it became my favorite subject. That’s why I joined AP biology in my sophomore year. I got a “B” in that class as my final grade. I feel that I could’ve done better if I actually took it this year as a junior. I was immature and didn’t truly know the meaning of studying. I don’t really regret it because I don’t think I would have time for AP biology this year because all the studying I do for my SAT. Even so I did enjoy all the projects we did together and the bonding time we had for the whole year. We even went to seaworld at the end of the year for all our hard efforts. I don’t expect myself to become a scientist or getting a Nobel prize for achieving something great. I really don’t have any plans for myself in the future, like my occupation or my major. What I do know is that I plan on attending UCLA for my four year college if I do that well on my SAT, I don’t have any plans after that, I hope that I can find a career that I would enjoy through a university.

Myself as a student, I plan to learn new things and try to excel at them and try to use them in everyday life. Right now I’m trying to get a great score on the SAT so I’m studying new vocabulary words every day and trying to expand my limited vocabulary. This year I plan on getting A’s in all my classes and bond with my teachers. I DO prefer English more than math because it just seems more of a relaxing thing writing down without worries, when in math you stress trying to solve a math problem. People say that I would be an anti-asian because I’m better in English than math.

I try not to get engulfed in my school work and try to enjoy my school life as a kid more. I understand that high school I flying by and that I should enjoy it more. I really don’t like studying. I like going out and stuff and other things normal high school kids do. So in the end my goal in life is to live my life without regrets.
